Joshua Petzel ran in a Marathon on October 7, 2012 as a fundraiser for DTBL. Joshua is a coach for Edina's Peewee B1 Hockey. He also has a partnership in 4 restaurants in the Twin Cities area: The Local, The Liffey, Kieran’s and Cooper.

"Tee shirts will be for sale in 4 Twin Cities pubs and by me individually. I will be selling them for $20 each with the proceeds going directly to DTBL.  As an incentive for people, if they wear the shirt on race day at the post-race celebration at The Liffey, I will be picking up their first pint." - Joshua Petzel

October 9, 2012: An update from Joshua:

Wow… what a weekend!  I set forth a while back with 2 main goals for this weekend:

1.       Do better than my 2011 time of 3:51:00 and finish under 3:45:00

2.       More importantly, raise $2,000 for a great organization: Defending The Blue Line (DTBL)

a.      Our mission at Defending The Blue Line (DTBL) is ensuring that children of military members are afforded every opportunity to participate in the game of hockey. We accomplish this by providing free equipment for military kids, hockey camps, special events, and financial assistance for registration fees and other costs associated with hockey.

I’m proud to say that both goals were met and smashed!  I ended up with a 3:43:31 time and we raised just under $5,000 for DTBL!!!!  This is absolutely unbelievable and I have been humbled by the response.  These funds will have a direct and immediate impact in helping numerous kids participate and enjoy the 2012-13 hockey season.  I cannot thank you enough for the support!  For those of you that were on the course, it was a major boost to see you as I was really struggling along Summit Ave in the final couple of miles.  It was also great to see such a fun crowd at the post-race party with friends and family.  Thank you for making this such a memorable day and event!

If you’re interested in helping us push over the $5,000 mark, you can still donate online in honor of this event.  I believe this will be active through Friday of this week.  And of course, the fine folks at DTBL are always accepting support.  You can click here for more information if you’d like to learn how you can help.

Special thanks again to:

Shane Hudella – Founder/President of DTBL

Lynette Utpadel – Website and online extraordinaire for DTBL

Jennifer Trotter – T-Shirt designer

Cara Irish Pubs – T-Shirt sponsor

The Liffey – Post-race host

We look forward to making an even bigger impact for next year’s race and please let me know if you have any interest in participating.  Thank you!
